About BergTrails

BergTrails is situated on Sans Souci Farm in the beautiful Kamberg Valley, nestled in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. Home to 119 Appaloosas running free on the 564ha farm and are all trained using natural horsemanship methods.


BergTrails offers self-catering accommodation and horse rides on our sure footed Appaloosas.

BergTrails is having their 7th Annual Adventure Trail on the 5th & 6th May!

This is not a race –  it is a combination between gymkhana and trail ride with emphasis on fun and games with your friends and horses.
Open to all ages and riding capabilities.
Free camping and firewood with hot water showers and individual paddocks.
Other accommodation available on request.
Self catering accommodation – the Bush Camp & Cottage.
25 horses with tack for hire & 10 horses without tack for hire. You’re welcome to bring your own tack (to be vetted)  1st come 1st served OR bring your own horse.
Bookings essential -  50 places  available and again 1st come 1st served.
Entrance fee  R280 (Includes 2 cool drinks and a burger) Hire of Horse R250/day.
Registration will be from 8.30am on Saturday 5th May 2012.
Teams of two (spare riders are around!)
Fancy dress theme – Cartoon/Animation Characters (horse & rider)!

How to find us?

From Pietermaritzburg

If you're coming from Pietermaritzburg side, to get to the Kamberg Valley take the Nottingham Road offramp off the N3 Highway. Travel through Nottingham Road to Rosetta (8kms) Opposite the "Ugly Duckling" (which you will see on your right hand side) turn left onto the Kamberg Road.Keep on the tar - 31 kms Don't take any of the turn-offs until the Glengarry/Highmoor junction. Keep right. Cross the Little Mooi River (about 250 m along and unmarked) 300 m further on the right you will see our entrance - sign boarded BergTrails and two smiling hay bales - you can't miss it!

From Johannesburg

If you're coming from the Johannesburg side - Take the second turn off the Highway for Mooi River. Head for the Wimpy- close to the Toll. You will see the Rosetta sign - turning left, in Rosetta take the Kamberg Road to the right. Keep on the tar - 31 kms Don't take any of the turn-offs until the Glengarry/Highmoor junction. Keep right. Cross the Little Mooi River (about 250 m along and unmarked) 300 m further on the right you will see our entrance - sign boarded BergTrails and two smiling hay bales - you can't miss it!
